Try This for Cancer and for Prevention Against Cancer
There are all kinds of thoughts, theories and routines of life that people have tried to prevent cancer as well as deal with cancer if they have been diagnosed with it. Tried and true basic techniques starting with our diet are the best ways to laying a good foundation against cancer. Even with all the differing symptoms and varying degrees of cancer, very few if any, will ever experience the exact same thing. Throughout this page we've written a few notes as to what’s worked for many people to avert cancer and to relieve discomfort from cancer symptoms. We hope you will be able to find something here that you may not of tried or didn't know was possible to give you a better line of defense and if need, to relief to some if not many of your symptoms. What you do here is not a guarantee that you will not get cancer, but it can help you to lower your odds of getting it.
What you put on the inside matters
The American Cancer Society as been telling us for years that there is a definite link between our physical activity levels and risk of cancer. The question is then raised How much do daily habits like diet and exercise affect your risk of cancer?" Much more than you might think. Research has shown that poor diet and not being active are two key factors that can increase a person’s cancer risk. They add "the good news is that these are things you can control." The top 3 suggestions to lower your risk of cancer (aside from not smoking) are to get to and stay at a healthy weight, be physically active on a regular basis and make healthy food choices.
"Every year, about 570,000 Americans die of cancer... one third of these deaths are linked to poor diet, physical inactivity, and carrying too much weight", says the American Cancer Society. Is this a wake up call? Yes for some, the sad thing is, is that most of those who fit this risk category don't pay attention to it until they are diagnosed with the disease. Getting to and staying at a healthy weight is important to reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes.
For every pound you are overweight, your risk of cancer is that much greater. The American Cancer Society adds this "being overweight can increase cancer risk in many ways. One of the main ways is that excess weight causes the body to produce and circulate more of the hormones estrogen and insulin, which can stimulate cancer growth."
What is a healthy weight? We tend to look to charts for an 'ideal' number; these no doubt can be helpful toward setting goals. However, when it comes to fine-line weight
number looking at your Body Mass Index (BMI) is a better guide. This number is based on the relationship between your height and weight. There are many online calculators that can help you find your BMI. The goal is to keep your BMI under 25, if you are above that number you have a bit of work to do. Even if your number is under 25, this does not excuse you to eat what you want and lay around. Physical activity and keeping a healthy diet are key in disease prevention. Expending energy for at least 30 minutes a day has proven to aid in burning excess fat, stimulate energy, fortify your immune system and strengthen muscles and bones.
Controlling portion size is also necessary to help you toward a healthy weight. What most people don't know is when we eat our 'portion' it really is 2 - 4 times what is
recommended. Just because we can fill a plate or what the restaurants serve us look 'about right' doesn't mean we should eat the whole plate full. Eating 4oz of meat is ideal, which is about all the body needs to function, the rest gets stored, which is what you are trying to avoid. One large chicken breast weighs in at 6- 7oz, steak even
more, fish runs closer to 5oz, try to eat about half of the protein you normal do. Remember also that you don't have to feel stuffed to be done eating. This actually is not a good feeling to have because this adds to amount of stress on your stomach for digestion, in fact the majority of food won't be digested before you start to eat again. Try writing down everything you eat in a week, be honest and mention every little thing, you may be surprised at what really goes into your body.
Last but not least, remember that what you put into your body matters. Don't get stuck in the rut of not caring. Your body will run much smoother, be happier and cancer free if you take the time to care for yourself. Your friends, family and we, support your good health and happy lifestyle. But try to remember this most of all, you are worth it.

Detoxify and fasting to keep your body clean
One of the easiest ways to keep cancer from taking root is by keeping your foundation free from free radicals and toxins. Consider doing a cleanse or a detox program regularly. If we believe prevention is possible, then we should make sure we have a clean start. If we don't, our body just has to work harder to establish that good ground level. Getting rid of unwanted toxins helps our body become stronger, faster.
Toxins build up in our system there is no escaping. Toxins come from the chemicals in the food and water we consume, drugs and medications, even from the air we breathe. What we choose to do with that build up is our choice. We can leave it be and hope for the best, or we can get rid of it and fortify our body against disease.
Most individuals say “I can never do a fast, I have low blood sugar”, this is a farce. If our body is working correctly and we are eating properly we would not have such low blood sugar issues. True there are few, such as those with diabetes that have to be careful when doing a fast, however the vast majority of us hide behind what’s
easiest. As silly as it sounds, most people are afraid of becoming healthy. This is because it requires some sort of change to their habits, or its something they do not understand. Truth of the matter is, if you are diagnosed with cancer, change is going to rule your world, why not prevent it.
Detoxing and fasting are not that difficult. In fact most people that try it once continue to do it because they immediately see and feel better. Many say “why didn’t I do that sooner!” Implementing a detox or fasting is safe and effective way of helping your body cleanse itself. By doing it regularly you give your organs a rest while giving your body time to heal it self from the inside out.
Depending on your choice of cleanse you reduce the toxicity levels in your body. The energy that normally goes toward digestion goes into building the immunes system, regenerate cells and cell production, and eliminates unhealthy cells from the body. Any inflammation that is due to digestion is reduced thus allowing the immune system to work more effectively. Fat stored chemicals, such as pesticides and drugs, are released from the cells are disposed. Depending on the length of your detox or fast it
accomplishes different things. One to three days focuses on water weight, release of toxins and cleanses the blood. A five day fast focuses on rebuilding and healing the
immune system. A ten day fast can thwart off many problems before they set root, shrink tumors, promote healing to the joints, ligaments, muscles and organs. For more information on detoxing see the Detox tab under the Nutrition & Maintenance heading.

Aromatherapy and heat
Fragrances and odors can create a sense of well-being or discontent. For instance, if we have difficulty coming to terms with a new situation, are unable to move on from past situations or seem unable to experience happiness, a new fragrance may help create a fresh mood or impulse. It may help us change our attitude or find a more positive reaction to a given situation. A pure essential oil does not create negative feelings such as aggression or fear, rather it has a balancing influence. No matter what stressful situation we may find ourselves in with our health, family or work issues, changing the feel of the environment can mean all the difference in the final outcome.

Cooler weather outside meets the needs to warm up our insides
With the temperatures changing and seasons shifting, it remind us why we are getting chilly and in need of warmth. Though the heater button is handy, most the time it really isn't enough to warm us up inside. Also with the fine economy sitting on top of the heater vent isn't exactly economical either. So how about some easy cost-effective solutions. May of you are use to your cup of hot cocoa when its cool outside, but don’t turn your nose up to the idea of sipping some tea thorough out the day. The properties that tea brings are far more beneficial that you may know. Let us give you just a couple examples:
Added nutrients - More than 200-300 independent health studies have been conducted related to the benefits of tea, most have been on green and black teas. Tea is rich in polyphenols, tannin, and flavonols (often termed catechins), fluoride, and vitamin C, P, K, and B. Although tea contains caffeine, the amounts are far less than those in coffee and produce a softer, beneficial effect. Studies suggest that as few as four servings of tea a day may have a positive impact on your health. These benefits of tea has proven effective to boost the immune system, slow the aging process, reduce the risk of kidney stones, prevent arthritis, reduce bad cholesterol, prevent cancer and protect the skin.
Cancer Prevention - Green Tea has been found to inhibit the growth of esophageal and stomach tumors in mice. Green and black tea could inhibit the development of pre-cancerous lesions as well. (Saitama CancerCenter and the Department of Biochemistry at the BunriTokushima University) A recent study showed that a compound in black tea called TF-2 caused colorectal cancer cells to “commit suicide”; normal cells were unaffected. (Imai K, Nakachi K. Cancer-preventative effects of drinking green tea among a Japanese population, Prev med 1997;26:769-75.) - Numi Tea
Present at higher quantities in green tea, the antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the focus of cancer research worldwide and identified by scientists as a
cancer-fighting compound. One Japanese study highlighted a reduction in the growth of human lung cancer cells after the consumption of two to three cups of green tea. (Nature, Structure, and Molecular Biology, 2004) - Numi Tea
Skin Protection - The EGCG rich polyphenols in green tea protect skin from ultraviolet radiation damage, preventing skin tumor formation. The same compound is found to inhibit enzymatic reactions that break down collagen and elastin in skin. - Numi Tea
Burns calories – while we usually reach for comfort foods when its cold, which not only adds weight but creates more health problems when spring and summer come around. Try reaching for a cup of Yerba Mate’. Mate’ is known for its health benefits through and through. While it provides a wealth of vitamins/minerals and energy it also is known as nature’s weight loss secret. It is known to kick up your immune system for the winter cold season. There are many flavors of Mate’ that we sell, here are some just to name a few: Rainforest Green, Chai, Green with Ginseng & Echinacea, Hibiscus Lime, and Lemon Ginger (one of my favs).
A recent study showed that green tea's antioxidant EGCG stimulates the body to burn calories, notably fat. In the study, a daily dose of 270 mg EGCG (the amount 2-3 cups of green tea) caused men to burn 4% more energy - about 80 extra calories a day. (University of Geneva, Switzerland) Researchers noted that green tea may work with other chemicals to enhance fat oxidation and thermogenesis, in which the body burns fuel such as fat to produce heat. Also tea contains no calories, you can drink it all day long without adding a inch to your waistline.
Internal heat supplier - Drinking tea containing cinnamon, nutmeg and Indian spices naturally warm your insides, thus creating a longer lasting heat that radiates through and through. This not only warms you up but it helps your circulation, cholesterol, heart and other vital regions.
Other research has shown tea has shown improved cardiovascular cealth and reduced risk of stroke: A study undertaken found that of 340 men and women who had suffered from heart attacks, those who drank a cup or more of black tea daily had a 44% lower risk of repeated heart attacks compared to non tea drinkers. Flavonoids are theorized to improve the lining of blood vessels, accounting for the decrease. (Brigham and Young, Harvard MedicalSchool) Studies show that drinking black tea helps to prevent narrowed or clogged arteries that lead to ischemic heart disease, heart attack, or stroke. (BostonUniversity Schoolof Medicine; The Zutphen Study, Netherlands)
There are many wonderful properties in tea that not only add heat to the body but health to your life. Tea is also an excellent friend to your pocket book because you can find good quality tea at a fraction of what you find most coffee drinks for. Happy Winter!
