You can find teas like this in the natural food section of your grocery store or you can make a blend yourself. Mix together equal parts of the dried herbs. Using hot water (water that has not come to the boil yet*) steep one teaspoon of the mix about 10 minutes. If the tea is too cool for your liking, you can re-heat, just being careful not to over heat. Tea shouldn't be extremely hot.
*Its important not to use too hot of water. When the water is too hot it has the ability to scald the nutrients and will reduce its natural healing properties. By using water that is hot yet has not come to the boil, it can expand and rehydrate the dried ingredients and release their properties with their fullest health potential.

Cooler weather outside meets the needs to warm up our insides

With the temperatures changing and seasons shifting, it remind us why we are getting chilly and in need of warmth. Though the heater button is handy, most the time it really isn't enough to warm us up inside. Also with the fine economy sitting on top of the heater vent isn't exactly economical either. So how about some easy cost-effective solutions. May of you are use to your cup of hot cocoa when its cool outside, but don’t turn your nose up to the idea of sipping some tea thorough out the day. The properties that tea brings are far more beneficial that you may know. Let us give you just a couple examples:

Added nutrients - More than 200-300 independent health studies have been conducted related to the benefits of tea, most have been on green and black teas. Tea is rich in polyphenols, tannin, and flavonols (often termed catechins), fluoride, and vitamin C, P, K, and B. Although tea contains caffeine, the amounts are far less than those in coffee and produce a softer, beneficial effect. Studies suggest that as few as four servings of tea a day may have a positive impact on your health. These benefits of tea has proven effective to boost the immune system, slow the aging process, reduce the risk of kidney stones, prevent arthritis, reduce bad cholesterol, prevent cancer and protect the skin.

Immune Booster - Blood cells from tea drinkers respond 5 times faster to germs than those of coffee drinkers. (Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard MedicalSchool) One way to measure the strength of an immune system is to measure the production of antibacterial proteins in the body. Higher levels of these proteins are associated with healthier immune systems that are better at warding off illness and disease than a weak one. A study comparing the production of these proteins in coffee and tea drinkers found that the group drinking 2.5 cups of black tea per-day exhibited production levels that were five times higher than those of the coffee drinkers. (Kamath A, Wang L, Das H, Li L, Reinhold V, Bukowski J (2003) “Antigens in tea-beverage prime human Vgamma 2Vdelta 2 T cells in vitro and in vivo for memory and
nonmemory antibacterial cytokine responses” Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 100 (10): 6009-14) - Numi Tea

Burns calories – while we usually reach for comfort foods when its cold, which not only adds weight but creates more health problems when spring and summer come around. Try reaching for a cup of Yerba Mate’. Mate’ is known for its health benefits through and through. While it provides a wealth of vitamins/minerals and energy it also is known as nature’s weight loss secret. It is known to kick up your immune system for the winter cold season. There are many flavors of Mate’ that we sell, here are some just to name a few: Rainforest Green, Chai, Green with Ginseng & Echinacea, Hibiscus Lime, and Lemon Ginger (one of my favs).

A recent study showed that green tea's antioxidant EGCG stimulates the body to burn calories, notably fat. In the study, a daily dose of 270 mg EGCG (the amount 2-3 cups of green tea) caused men to burn 4% more energy - about 80 extra calories a day. (University of Geneva, Switzerland) Researchers noted that green tea may work with other chemicals to enhance fat oxidation and thermogenesis, in which the body burns fuel such as fat to produce heat. Also tea contains no calories, you can drink it all day long without adding a inch to your waistline.

Internal heat supplier - Drinking tea containing cinnamon, nutmeg and Indian spices naturally warm your insides, thus creating a longer lasting heat that radiates through and through. This not only warms you up but it helps your circulation, cholesterol, heart and other vital regions.

Holds Promise as HIV Therapy - Epigallocatechin gallate (EGGG), an active ingredient in tea, has antiviral, antioxidant and antibacterial properties that are now being studied in hopes that it helps inhibit the HIV virus. (Kawai K, Tsuno NH, Kitayama J, Okaji Y, et al. Epigallocatechin gallate, the main component of tea polyphenol, binds to CD4 and interferes with gp120 binding, J Allergy Clin Immunol 2003;112:951-957.)

Other research has shown tea has shown improved cardiovascular cealth and reduced risk of stroke: A study undertaken found that of 340 men and women who had suffered from heart attacks, those who drank a cup or more of black tea daily had a 44% lower risk of repeated heart attacks compared to non tea drinkers. Flavonoids are theorized to improve the lining of blood vessels, accounting for the decrease. (Brigham and Young, Harvard MedicalSchool) Studies show that drinking black tea helps to prevent narrowed or clogged arteries that lead to ischemic heart disease, heart attack, or stroke. (BostonUniversity Schoolof Medicine; The Zutphen Study, Netherlands)

There are many wonderful properties in tea that not only add heat to the body but health to your life. Tea is also an excellent friend to your pocket book because you can find good quality tea at a fraction of what you find most  coffee drinks for. Happy Winter!
